DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Saturday 28 July 2012
My very first three-dot journalism blog, ever … I will start each blog with a quote from Elvis…a trivia question (about Elvis, of course) the answer is down at bottom…what Elvis was doing about this timeframe in various years.
ELVIS QUOTE:
About the famous photo of Elvis as a little boy:
“I always remember that I had a peanut in my mouth when that photo was taken.”
ELVIS TRIVIA:
In what year did Elvis make his 1st Las Vegas appearance in a 2-week engagement?
ELVIS HISTORY:
Saturday 29 July 1955
Elvis (two years out of high school) was performing at the new baseball stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. The day before (28 July) he had been at the same stadium and there was a near riot, as usual. Women chased him into the shower stall in back of the stage and tried to strip him naked…another singer was quoted as saying something like, those Jacksonville women are like alligators…well, yes we are, darling. Thank you, thank you very much.
AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
28 July 2012
My daughter and I just got back from the annual Tampa Elvisfest. I will blog about that tomorrow. Twenty awesome ETAs put on a bang-up show…Two surprises: Jim Shirah fabulous W*APE disk jockey was there to greet the crowd, and Ted Torres sang…We have been long-time Ted fans, and he just gets better and better…Along with Betty Hayes, we are going to see Ted in Zellwood, near Orlando, Saturday night. Can’t wait.
Our Jacksonville “I’ll Remember You, Elvis Fan Club” is so excited that Elvis Week is coming up. We’ve been planning the trip for months. I’ll be blogging from there…Eleven friends—seven from Jacksonville area and four from Kansas City, Missouri area—will be there for the three Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist contests. The competition this year will be incredible with Victor Trevino, Jr., Kevin Mills, Bobby Simpkins, Ted Torres, and so many more competing…We also have tickets to Bill Cherry, Brandon Bennett, and Cody Slaughter’s shows…We all have our favorites.
