Elvis Blog – Post #11

DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Monday 6 August 2012

ELVIS QUOTE:
“I thought people would laugh at me. Some did, and some are still laughing today.” Why did he say that?

ELVIS TRIVIA:
What was the name of Elvis Presley Boulevard before being renamed? (Before Elvis became famous.)

ELVIS HISTORY:
Friday 6 August 1954
“Billboard” gave a review of Sun Studios. In the section called “Talent’ they eschewed standard policy and the editor endorsed a new sound, calling Elvis a potent new canter who can sock …country or r and b. It was just one month before, on a Tuesday July 6th that the trio (Elvis, Scotty Moore, and Bill Black) went once again to Sun Studios. This time it is to get the B side for “That’s All Right (Mama).” Reportedly, Elvis wanted to sing a ballad for the “flip” side. It’s possible that “Blue Moon of Kentucky” was recorded sometime later and added to the A side.

AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Monday 6 August 2012
It’s hot in Florida—that’s like saying grass is green. Never-the-less, I’m determined to bake my version of Hungry Girl’s Cake In A Coffee Mug. The recipe sounds so good that I can’t resist. My friend and neighbor, Peggy Tingle, has a different version. She is a true Southern Belle from Macon, Georgia, so hers is probably better and more complicated. She’s a great cook. I wonder if I can still remember how to turn on the oven? Having been on a diet for a week, I could eat the pink 3X5 card I wrote it on.

RECEIPE OF THE DAY:
Coffee Cake 166 Calories:
1 TB Fiber One original bran cereal & ¼ tsp cinnamon
Put in a Zipper baggie
Pound it with a mallet
In a bowl, add 2 tsp brown sugar—don’t pack it. ½ tsp light whipped butter
Mash this mess
Stir. It’ll be crumbly
Spray a coffee mug with Pam
Put 3 TB yellow cake mix (moist kind), 3 TB club soda, 1 drop almond extract, ¼ tsp baking powder, dash of cinnamon, in mug
Sprinkle crumb mix over cake mix
Microwave for 1 min 45 sec
Serves me and me alone
