Elvis Blog – Post #17
DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Sunday 12 August 2012
ELVIS QUOTE:
“I don’t know what it is. Only the other day Daddy looked at me and said, ‘… The last thing I remember is that I was working in a little ol’ paint factory and you were driving a truck.’”
ELVIS TRIVIA:
How many official singing engagements did Elvis make outside the U.S?
ELVIS HISTORY:
Friday 13 August 1954
It’s hard to believe that just three years ago in August 1951 sixteen-year-old Elvis had tried out for the high school football team but didn’t make it because the coach didn’t like his ducktail and sideburns (also called DA and muttonchops).
When some local high school boys tried to cut Elvis’s hair, Red West steps in and defended Elvis. They became friends and later Red becomes a Memphis Mafia member.
AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Sunday 12 August 2012
I am so jealous. My sister Marlene and her daughter, Sandy; and my friends, Nancy Johnson and Earlene Hieronymus will travel today from the Kansas City area and arrive in Memphis for Elvis Week. I will walk my dog on the beach and later watch “Breaking Bad.” I may try to read another chapter of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo if I don’t fall asleep. If that guy makes one more pot of coffee, I’m quitting.
JOKE OF THE DAY:
Heard this joke yesterday during a break at early voting.
Robber’s ski mask slips during a holdup.
He asks a man, “Did you see my face?”
The man says, “Yes.”
The robber shots him.
Robber turns to a woman.
“Did you see my face?”
She answers, “No, but my husband did.”
