For anyone who believes it was all smooth sailing for Elvis after the release of That’s All Right (Mama)they would only have to talk to his friends Jimmy Velvet or Lamar Fike, who watched Elvis perfect his voice and style. The one-night stands were not always a howling success, and there would be many one-nighters before Elvis buys his first Cadillac (in November). But he’s on his way. Scotty Moore is finding it more and more difficult to be both a performing artist and a manager even though Elvis is still only a regional phenomenon.

One day to get organized before the primary election tomorrow. I will be working from six to eight and then pick up my daughter, Jayme, and head toward Memphis. We are meeting the Kansas City group (my sister, Marlene, her daughter, Sandy, our friends Nancy and Earlene) on Wednesday and stand honor guard at the vigil for Elvis. We’ll be wearing Sandi Pichon’s TCB Elvis fan club T-shirts for this event. Dressing for any Elvis event is easy. I just choose an Elvis T-shirt—I have about 25 of these. But whose T-shirt will we choose for the rest of the week for the ETA contests? . . . Ted Torres? Victor Trevino, Jr? Kevin Mills? Bobby Simpkins? Not an easy choice. The Ultimate ETA contest is going to be especially difficult this year. We are so excited about Elvis Week. Cody Slaughter, Brandon Bennett and Bill Cherry have shows and we will be right down front.

TRIVIA ANSWER:
Brigitte Bardot (this was a surprise, since Elvis usually preferred brunettes.)
