DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Monday 20 August 2012
ELVIS QUOTE:
“My mother always taught me to behave, to have good manners, to help people, not harm them, to work hard, and never give up, and to make it on my own.”
ELVIS TRIVIA:
Elvis was making $100,000.00 a month when he joined the Army. How much did the Army pay him?
ELVIS HISTORY:
FRIDAY 20 AUGUST 1954
Elvis was mostly singing locally at this point. He took one trip to play small clubs in Texas. He had been listed third on the Slim Whitman Show on 30 July at the Overton Park Shell, but now he was booked into Nashville for the Grand Ole Opry on 4 September. He was thrilled, but it did not go well.
AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:

Unpacking and recovering from Elvis Week. I had a stack of mail and a ton of emails and checked the internet. One of the more interesting tips I saw on the internet was “Use baby powder to get sand off your skin.” Living on the beach, this might be a solution to a continuing problem. I’ll try it.
I picked up my dachshund, Brunne-Hilde (I call her Broom) today and was so happy to see her. She, of course, looked happy. Dachshunds always look like they’re smiling. I love dogs. They have no agenda. You want to sit? Okay, they do, too. You want to sleep? Just as good. They never complain or talk back. Live is good with a dog. Who else is going to run around the room three times, wag their tail, and roll over just because you came home?
TRIVIA ANSWER:
$78.00 a month
