Elvis Blog – Post #30
DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Saturday 25 August 2012
ELVIS QUOTE:
“My daddy had seen a lot of people who played the guitar and stuff and didn’t work, so he said, ‘You should make up your mind about either being an electrician or playing the guitar. I never saw a guitar player worth a damn.’”
ELVIS TRIVIA:
What nickname did Elvis use to refer to his mother?
ELVIS HISTORY:
Fall
In September Elvis had realized one of his dreams, to play the Grand Ole Opry. He drove with Bill, Scotty, along with Sam Phillips, and Marion Keisker (of Sun Records) to Nashville, but was disappointed because he found the Ryman (theater) looking shabby, and unkempt. He said, “You mean this is what I’ve been dreaming about all these years?”
AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Saturday 25 August 2012
Today I have a critique meeting at 11:45 with Pam Wells and then a workshop with the Ancient City Romance Authors at 12:30. I don’t write romance (I truly wish I could) but the romance authors know a lot about the writing business and the workshops are wonderful. The group is not all romance writers. It has a Christian/inspirational author, Kathy Bains; and a women’s fiction author, Dolores Wilson; and a mystery/suspense author, Elizabeth Sinclair as well as authors of other genres.
Both meetings are near the hospital where my daughter, JayeDee, is improving, I am told, so I will go down and stay with her until the first writers’ meeting. Before that I have to go to the post office, the bank, and gas up the car. It seems every day is crammed with things to do, and I am getting zero writing done on my thriller. I get up at four but there are never enough hours in the day. I guess I need to review Kelly Stone’s terrific book, Time to Write.
JOKE OF THE DAY:
Cartoon from Saturday Evening Post:

TIP OF THE DAY:
From Consumer Reports: You know bananas are rich in potassium, the mineral that helps regulate sodium. But also a banana a day will blunt the effect of salt, and also may help lower blood pressure, prevent artery clogs, and reduce stoke risk?
