Fall 1954
Things were not going well for Elvis in Nashville. Elvis felt he was a failure, and never played the Grand Ole Opry again. Next, his suitcase full of clothes were forgotten at a gas station, Jim Denny made a rude comment (which he later retracted saying he “always knew Elvis would make it”), and radio stations thought Elvis’s songs were too raunchy to play. But things would get better soon. Col Parker heard of Elvis, took note of the girls’ screaming and swooning, and went to see Elvis in person.

Yesterday was the monthly meeting of the Jacksonville I’ll Remember You, Elvis fan club.
We meet at 5 PM the 4th Sunday of the month at the Moose Lodge on Collins Road. This meeting featured a bake sale, raffle and auction, singing, and entertainment. The $5.00 Donations will go to thank the Moose Lodge for generously letting us meet there. We have five Elvis tribute artist and one Patsy Cline TA, as well as the blues brothers TAs. It is always fun, and the president, Tracy Duncan works hard to arrange for games and prizes.

JOKE OF THE DAY:
Scene. The Alamo. Dead pioneers (arrows in their backs) all around the stockade yard. Two lone survivors. One reads a note (attached to an Indian arrow) and says to the only other survivor. “Those fools! They’ve misspelled surrender.”

RECIPE OF THE DAY:
My version of the prize-winning recipe from Taste of Home
Sunrise Mini-Pizzas:
Beat 8-10 eggs & 2 tb milk, in a bowl
Add salt & pepper to 1 tb. melted butter in skillet
Remove & set aside
Roll 10 (thawed) frozen white dinner rolls flat into 5” circle
Spoon egg mixture on circles
Sprinkle 10 cooked, crumbled bacon strips & 2 c. shredded cheddar cheese on top
(I added a little shredded onion & green bell pepper with the egg mixture)
Bake 350 F for 15 min
Makes 10 mini pizzas
Make a happy face w/black olives for eyes, small pickle for nose, & red pepper strip for big smiling mouth
For Jacksonville Jag’s-owner (Shahid Khan) version, add mustache made of thin black olive strips

TIP OF THE DAY:
