DATELINE Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Wednesday 29 August 2012
ELVIS QUOTE:
“I believe the key to happiness is: someone to love, something to do, and something to look forward to.”
ELVIS TRIVIA:
When the Presley’s moved from Tupelo to Memphis, how large was their apartment?
ELVIS HISTORY:
Fall 1954
Elvis performed at the Louisiana Hayride and was asked to bring his parents (or guardian) with him the next time to sign a one-year contract (for Saturday nights). The pay is $18.00 a show for Elvis, and $12 each for Scotty and Bill. They will endorse the only product they will ever advertise—Southern Made Donuts.
AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Wednesday 29 August 2012
I had planned to wear a black, velvet, hooded cape and flip-up mask to Dragon*con, but plans changed when Steve and Doris Covey invited Maggie Toussaint and I to ride with them to Atlanta. Since Steve has measured the available space and given us our allotment, we will be taking ‘carry-on’ size luggage. Probably a good thing. With forty thousand people (and about ten thousand of them in costume) it will be crowded on escalators and capes get stepped on.
I will be in the writer’s track from morning to night anyway. The first year I attended, I took a zillion pictures, but the second year I realized I couldn’t take pictures fast enough, and gave up and just ogled the outfits and celebrities.
JOKE OF THE DAY:
Studies find a definite link between drinking red wine and telling your boss what you really think.

Roasted Bananas for Banana Pudding:
Roasting bananas adds richness & extra sweetness to banana pudding without adding calories
Inside of banana cooks & outside turns black
Here’s how:
Leave peel on 5 bananas (remove 3 bananas halfway through roasting)
Place 5 bananas on parchment paper-covered flat pan
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 min
Remove 3 bananas & let cool
Peel & slice ½” thick
Continue baking the other 2 for 20 min more
Mash these 2
Use in favorite Banana Pudding recipe
TIP OF THE DAY:
Every once in a while, feed your houseplant club soda that’s gone flat. They will prosper.
