Elvis Blog – Post #38
DATELINE: Atlanta, Georgia
Remembering Sunday 2 September 2012
ELVIS QUOTE:
“It was just something (dressing differently) that I wanted to do. I wasn’t trying to be better than anybody else.”
ELVIS TRIVIA:
What is the acreage of Graceland?
ELVIS HISTORY:
January 1955
Car Trouble
Elvis bought his parents a 1954 Ford to take the place of the 1942 Lincoln Continental. He had it painted pink and white and used it for touring. The Ford conked out in Texarkana, Arkansas and he replaced it with a 1954 Caddy, which Bill Black wrecked. Scotty Moore then bought a Bel Air Chevy for the touring group but it died.
ATLANTA, GEORGIA:
Sunday 2 September 2012
Elvis would have loved Dragon*con. There are about forty thousand people here, and ten thousand are in amazing costumes. In the midst of all those terrific outfits, a man said to me, “I love your T-shirt!” (It showed Elvis at Tupelo) and not really a costume, but I glowed at the compliment anyway. So much to do at the Con. It’s impossible to see everything. There’s too many workshops I wanted to attend, but given that there are some forty different tracks I can only choose a different one next year.
Today at 11:30 Maggie Toussaint is on a panel called Creating Memorable Characters that I would love to attend, but it conflicts with my Seminar number 12, Characterization with Michael Stackpole. He is awesome. Yesterday, during a break, I was able to see the wonderful Irish band, Emerald Rose, again. On Friday they sang more traditional Irish songs, but yesterday belted out tunes in a Science Fiction vein—go figure. This is their 13th year at the Con. I hope to see them again today.
