Elvis Blog – Post #42

DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Thursday 6 September 2012

ELVIS QUOTE:
“Not me. I’m not taking any chances.” What was Elvis unwilling to take a chance on?

ELVIS TRIVIA:
What size were Elvis’s combat boots?

ELVIS HISTORY:
5 February 1955
A Memphis Press-Scimitar reporter gave Elvis a three-column write-up. Gladys Presley was both proud and concerned that her son was making headlines.

AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Thursday 6 September 2012
When I accidently took my dachshund’s leash with me to the pool leaving her behind, she retaliated. When I tried to get inside my condo, she had pushed all the rugs in the hallway up against the door. For a ten-pound dog, this is quite a feat. I almost didn’t get back in. She eyed the leash. Her look said, “What? You’ve got another dog now?”

JOKE OF THE DAY:
When are you considered old-school? You admit you know how to play Solitaire without a computer.

RECIPE OF THE DAY:
Cake Bombs adapted from bakersroyale.com
Makes about 30-35 bombs
Bomb:
1 can sweetened condensed milk, 3 Tb butter, ¾ C dry cake mix, 2/3 C chocolate, melted (for dipping)
Chocolate Glaze:
2/3 C dark chocolate, 1 Tb heavy cream, 4 Tb powdered sugar, sifted, 3-5 T warm water
Heat sweetened condensed milk & butter in a pan over low 10-15 min
Stir constantly until mixture can maintain a line when a spoon or spatula is drawn through it
Remove from heat
Stir in dry cake mix
Set aside for 5-10 min before rolling to ¾” balls
Lightly butter hands
Roll mixture in ¾” balls
Chill for 20 min
Dip in chocolate
Set dipped bombes aside for chocolate to set
*OR Dip in chocolate glaze:
Put chocolate & heavy cream in a bowl over simmering water 2-3 min to melt without stirring
Stir gently
Add powdered sugar
Add water 1 tblspn at a time, mixing after each addition until dipping consistency is reached
Set aside
Cool until warm
Roll in nuts or sprinkles or whatever

TIP OF THE DAY:
Touch-up painting is easy when you use some of your left-over paint and a very small artist brush to make “dots” with the tip. The dots will blend in with the old paint.
