I’ll Remember You, Elvis (Fan Club of Jacksonville)

ELVIS QUOTE:
“Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain’t going’ away.”

ELVIS TRIVIA:
Which southern state officially honored Elvis with an Elvis Presley Week?

ELVIS HISTORY:
1955
Elvis’s first plane ride. In March he flew to NYC, with Bob Neal, (along with Black and Moore) to audition for Arthur Godfrey). Godfrey turned them down and Elvis was crushed.

AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Friday 14 September 2012
Tickets are going on sale for the Million Dollar Quartet in both Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale. The Jacksonville fan club (I’ll Remember You, Elvis) is excited because Cody Slaughter is going to play Elvis. Most of us can’t go to see Brandon Bennett in the same role in Chicago. The plan is to caravan to the play. The problem now is getting all of our schedules cleared for the same day. Rhea Edenfield has suggested the November 3rd matinee. Our club president Tracy Duncan will have to weigh in before we can decide since she’s a school teacher with young children. Much tougher for her then some of us. We are about one hundred members now, and have six tribute artists who provide a lot of entertainment and laughs. The fourth Sunday of the month at five O’clock you’ll find us at the Moose Lodge, 5051 Collins Road. Everyone is welcome. Sometimes we play games, often we have pot lucks, and we always have a good time.

JOKE OF THE DAY:
Kid enters a barber shop. Barber whispers to customer, “He’s is the dumbest kid ever. Watch. We do this every day.” The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other. “Which do you want?” The boy takes the quarters. Later, the barber asks “why?”
The boy: “Because the day I take the dollar, the game’s over!”

RECIPE OF THE DAY:
Scuppernong Pie:
Ingredients:
4 C scuppernongs, abt. 2# (this is not a hash tag, it stands for pound) & one 9”pie shell
Rinse 4 C. scuppernongs; drain
Remove skins, separate & save skins
Place pulp in a heavy saucepan
Boil, reduce heat
Simmer uncovered 5 min. (to 1 C)
Press pulp through a sieve to remove seeds
Combine pulp, skins, 1 C. sugar, ¼ C flour, 1/8 tea salt, 1 TB lemon juice, 1 ½ TB butter
Stir
Pour into pastry shell
Cover with crumb topping: ½ C flour, ¼ C sugar, 1/3 C butter
Cut topping to resemble course meal
Bake at 400 degrees for 40 min
This recipe is from Tupelo
And no, I haven’t a clue what a scuppernong is
Maybe my sister-in-law Bonnie knows
She is one of the best cooks around

TIP OF THE DAY:
Hide valuables in plain sight—like inside tennis balls among lots of other tennis balls.

TRIVIA ANSWER:
Many states declared an Elvis Presley Day, but Alabama proclaimed a whole week.

FROM THE INTERNET:
The scuppernong /ˈskʌpərˌnɒŋ/ is a large variety of muscadine (Vitis rotundifolia), a species of grape native to the Southern United States. It is usually a greenish or bronze color and is similar in appearance and texture to a white grape, but rounder and larger and first known as the ‘big white grape’.
