DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Saturday 15 September 2012
ELVIS QUOTE:
“I have no use for bodyguards, but have a very specific use for two highly trained certified public accountants.
ELVIS TRIVIA:
How was Elvis billed during his early Las Vegas engagements (1950s)
ELVIS HISTORY:
1955
After Arthur Godfrey rejected Elvis, Colonel Parker endeared himself to Elvis by telling him not to worry. He promised that New York agents would soon be begging for Elvis. He was right. And he made it happen. When I hear Fool, fool, fool, I think of Godfrey.
AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Saturday 15 September 2012
A red-letter day for me. I think, although I have yet to see the listing, that Amazon finally listed me as the first author of Elvis Fans in the 21st Century. I have filled out forms four times and talked to technicians at least a dozen times over the last two months, yet they couldn’t seem to put the names in the correct order.
The problem is the Amazon folks were sending me an email to a Gmail account I haven’t used in so long I was locked out. That prompted many, many attempts to retrieve that Gmail account. At least Amazon has live people to talk to. Gmail only has choices to make on a (no reply) website. None of the web choices pertained to my problem. Anyway, the e-book has a wonderful picture on the cover, taken with a Brownie Camera by a 13-year-old Wanda Sprung in Tampa. Elvis is standing in a hotel room doorway and Wanda had just received her first kiss—from Elvis. I love the picture and the interview she gave Jayme and I in June. She gave us a glimpse of what it was like to meet Elvis. I am forever in her dept.
JOKE OF THE DAY:
An Army officer got to a little town too late to get a hotel room. The hotel proprietor did have one double room and the occupant was an Air Force officer. “But the occupant snores so loudly everyone is complaining,” he added. The next day the proprietor asked about the snorer. “No problem,” the Army officer said. “I just kissed him on the cheek and said, ‘Goodnight, beautiful.’ He set up all night and watched me.”
