Elvis Blog – Post #58 – WPA

DATELINE: North Carolina
Remembering Saturday 22 September 2012

ELVIS QUOTE:
“I don’t know anything about music. In my line you don’t have to.”

ELVIS TRIVIA:
What bird did Sun Records use for its recording label emblem?

ELVIS HISTORY:
April 1955
Elvis had two hits (Baby, Let’s Play House & I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone) and Colonel Parker convinced Elvis to leave Sun Records for RCA since Sun couldn’t keep up with the demand.

NORTH CAROLINA:
22 September 2012
Writer’s Police Academy
Today is the last full day of workshops. Yesterday was fantastic, but I missed seeing a car being blown up, and the body in the shallow grave, and many other wonderful workshops. I realize there is no way to see it all. Lee Child is here but we will have to wait for the banquet tonight to see him speak. Time has gone by in a blur. One thing I learned from a fire fighter is to push my car seat back as far as I can and still reach the steering wheel, because the air bag will protect the torso, but not the legs, face and arms. The further I am back from the dashboard, the better off I am.

JOKE OF THE DAY:
A man walked through a forest pondering life. “God, are you listening?”
God: “Yes, my son, I am here.”
Man: “God, what is a million years to you?”
God: “A second to me is like a million years to you. Like money, it means nothing to me.”
Man: “So, God, can I have a million dollars?”
God: “In a second.”

RECIPE OF THE DAY:
Wings:
You’ll need a jar of Spicy Marinara Sauce & 6 raw split wings & napkins
Mix in a zip-lock bag:
2 Tb paprika, ½ tsp ea: salt & cayenne, 1 ½ ea: garlic & onion powder, 1 tsp ea: dried thyme & oregano, & ¼ tsp pepper
Remove tip from chicken wing-halves & toss in plastic bag with dry rub
Grill wing-halves over med heat until thoroughly done while sauce is simmering in small pan
Pour sauce into a la. Bowl
Add wings
Remove to platter
Sprinkle with 1/4 C parmesan cheese, grated, & 1 tsp fresh parsley, chopped
Add a little hot sauce if desired
This is messy

TIP OF THE DAY:
To keep your fallen birdseed from sprouting weeds, bake your seed in the microwave. Pour 1 gallon seed into a paper bag and microwave for 5 minutes on high. OR spread seed in regular oven 300 degrees for 30 min. Or lay a small tarp under the feeder. You’ll have to empty this so rain doesn’t wash the seeds over the rim.
