NORTH CAROLINA:
Sunday 23 September 2012
After the morning session, Karen and I will head back to Florida. It all went by too quickly. Sisters in Crime National was the major sponsor of this event and it was wonderful. This morning we saw a reenactment of a police chase complete with the “escapees” being handcuffed and arrested. Tonight, at the banquet, they said the surprise guest would be really big. And this was really big. “Don Knotts” came in, wearing his Mayberry Deputy Uniform, and helped pass out gift baskets to the winners—I was one of them. Of cours,e I didn’t have my camera. Marsha Clark was also a surprise to me—she was really charming and funny. Lee Child, cool as ever, spoke on the evolution of story-telling and writing.

JOKE OF THE DAY:
Harry, who spent his whole life in the desert, had never seen a train or RR tracks. Finally coming to the city, he stands in the middle of a RR track. He hears a whistle but doesn’t move. He’s thrown to the side of the tracks and receives minor internal injuries and broken bones. After his hospitalization, he’s at his friend’s house. While in the kitchen, he hears the teakettle whistling. He grabs a baseball bat and batters the teakettle into a lump of metal. His friend sees this and asks the desert man, “Why’d you ruin my good tea kettle?” Harry replies, “Man, you gotta kill these things when they’re small.”
