Elvis Blog – Post #61 – Emmy Awards
DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Tuesday 25 September 2012
ELVIS QUOTE:
“From the time I was a kid, I always knew something was going to happen to me. Didn’t know exactly what.”
ELVIS TRIVIA:
In what southern city & state did a judge prepare a warrant for Elvis’s arrest if he “moved his body in any of the dozens of ways . . . deemed threatening to the morals of minors” during his performance?
ELVIS HISTORY:
April 16 April 1955
Colonel Parker was still trying to convince Elvis to leave Sam Philips and Sun Records. Because Elvis was loyal to Phillips, the colonel told Elvis that Sam needed the money to invest in Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, and others. It was true that he needed money, and Sam had offered Elvis’s contract to Dot Records for $7,500. It was turned down because Elvis was thought to be a temporary phenomenon.
AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Tuesday, September 2012
Yesterday I got home in time to watch some of the Emmy Awards. I was so happy to see Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) win for Supporting Actor, Drama, and Dame Maggie Smith win for Supporting Actress, Drama (Downton Abbey). I love the Emmy’s and love the red carpet and fashion police (bash?) later. How could you not love remarks like “That hair looks like a doily,” and “My mother had that fabric on her sofa,” “It looked like she had a baby in the backside, too, ” and “That look is sooo 2010,” and my favorite, “She looks so great I might go straight after this.”
JOKE OF THE DAY:
Two New Jersey hunters go into the woods. One falls to the ground, and his eyes roll back in his head. He is not breathing. The second guy calls 911, he is hysterical. “Help! I think my friend just passed away.” The 911 operator is very calm. “Take it easy. I can help. Now, first, let’s make sure he’s dead.” The operator hears a gun shot, then a silence. The second man comes back on the phone. “Okay, now what?”

TRIVIA ANSWER:
Jacksonville, Florida. Elvis performed three shows a night at the beautiful Florida Theater. Judge Gooding prepared the warrant. LIFE MAGAZINE was there to film the event. Police lined the stage, waiting for the arrest. Many of our fan club members were there—as well as Gooding’s daughters. Gooding also became an Elvis fan after he met him.
