Elvis Blog – Post #63 – Mirrors, Schedules, & Worrying
DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Thursday 27 September 2012
ELVIS QUOTE:
“The image is one thing and the human being is another. It’s very hard to live up to an image.”
ELVIS TRIVIA:
What introductory music used by Elvis in the 1970’s shares its name with a book by Friedrich Nietzsche?
ELVIS HISTORY:
Sunday 8 May 1955
Scotty Moore and Bill Black were experts at following Elvis’s hip movements. In Tampa Florida, the audience went wild every time his left leg jerked, or his fist punched the air—followed by two shakes of the hips.
AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Thursday 28 September 2012
I read that most of the things we worry about never happen. I worried because I had a conflict for 10 November. A wedding–my brother and his family are coming from Missouri, and I had RSVP’d long ago—and a wedding shower (just announced) for the same day. Last night the shower date was changed to the 11th. Then the Embassy Hotel called to say they found my large mirror and were sending it free. Then I passed my annual doctor’s exam with flying colors, as they say. Wow. Now the only conflict is seeing the Million Dollar Quartet on Nov 3rd without missing the monthly Sisters in Crime meeting—this may not be one that works out. But how could I miss seeing Cody Slaughter? You’re right. Not a chance.
JOKE OF THE DAY:
The parrot, Ishmail, was a birthday present, but it had bad attitude and worse vocabulary. After trying everything to change the bird’s habits and nothing worked, in a moment of desperation the owner placed Ishmial in the freezer, among some frozen chickens, just for a few moments. Fearing the bird was hurt, the owner quickly opened the freezer door. The parrot calmly stepped out and said, “I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I’ll endeavor to correct my behavior at once. I really am truly sorry and beg your forgiveness.” Astonished at the bird’s change in attitude, he was about to ask what made this dramatic change when the parrot continued, “May I ask, what did the chickens do?”
