Elvis Blog – Post #64 – Johnny Mathis

DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Friday 28 September 2012

ELVIS QUOTE:
“I’ll never feel comfortable taking a strong drink and I’ll never feel easy smoking a cigarette. I just don’t think those things are right for me.”

ELVIS TRIVIA:
Who gave Elvis his pair of autographed ‘gold’ boxing gloves?

ELVIS HISTORY:
Monday 9 May 1955
Elvis performed in Macon, Georgia. The sold-out show brought mass hysteria as members of the audience collapsed. Police Officers rushed him out of the auditorium. Mayhem ensued. Reportedly, Elvis enjoyed every minute of it. On the 10th Elvis played Ocala, Florida.

AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA:
Friday 29 September 2012
Who said never start with a weather report? It is so amazing here on the island right now. Perfect fall weather. Last year we didn’t really have a winter, but already the mornings are cool—although it was near 90 degrees by afternoon yesterday. I am editing today, a job I hate. This is the third edit of the manuscript. Steve Berry said his went through 40 passes. I have a long way to go, looking for all the ing words and ly words as well as had, just, and that. Better get busy. I just (woops, take out the just) heard that Johnny Mathis will be in town at the Florida Theater soon. That venue will always be the “Elvis” Theater for me —it is where he gained national attention. I haven’t seen Johnny Mathis on stage since Berkeley, California, but did see him on PBS TV. He is still fabulous, still wonderful, wonderful. I hope to get tickets.

JOKE OF THE DAY:
In a cemetery in England: Remember man, as you walk by, As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, you soon will be. Prepare yourself and follow me. To which someone replied by writing on the tombstone with a sharpie: To follow you I’ll not consent. Until I know which way you went.
