Elvis Blog – Post #68 – ACRA Boot Camp St. Augustine
DATELINE: Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida)
Remembering Saturday 6 October 2012
ELVIS QUOTE:
“I’ve never gotten over what they call stage fright. I go through it every show. I’m pretty concerned, I’m pretty much thinking about the show. I never get completely comfortable with it, and I don’t let the people around me get comfortable with it, in that I remind them that it’s a new crowd out there, it’s a new audience, and they haven’t seen us before. So it’s got to be like the first time we go on.”
ELVIS TRIVIA:
What does Elvis do when he meets “the devil in nylon hose” as described by this song title?
ELVIS HISTORY:
May 1955
When reporters alerted the Bible Belt about the unmanageable Jacksonville (Florida) teens tearing clothing from Elvis’s body and that he encouraged it, police had to rush Elvis outside before he was manhandled to death. The colonel knew for sure he had a winner.
ANCIENT CITY ROMANCE WRITERS’ BOOT CAMP, ANASTASIA ISLAND:
Saturday 6 October 2012
Yesterday afternoon a hoard of romance writers descended on an unsuspecting guide (well, he was expecting normal people, not romance writers) for a factory tour. We learned the difference between so called white chocolate and dark chocolate (what I call ‘real’ chocolate). When we came back, stuffed with the many samples we tried, we were treated to an evening workshop on first pages by Elizabeth Sinclair. Tomorrow we get point of view and conflict with Debra Dixon and a keynote address by Deborah Smith. The workshops are so informative, it is so beautiful here on the island, and the weather is perfect, I will hate for this boot camp to end.
JOKE OF THE DAY:
A man found a lamp and rubbed it. Out popped a genie:
Genie: “Release me and get one wish.”
Man: “I want to visit Hawaii but I’m scared to fly and I get seasick. Build me a bridge to Hawaii.”
Genie: Logistically impossible. How would the supports reach the bottom of the Pacific? Think of the concrete…the steel!! No. Make another wish.”
Man: “I’ve been divorced four times because my wives said I’m insensitive. I wish to understand women…know how they feel inside and what they’re thinking when they give me the silent treatment…know why they’re crying, know what they really want when they say ‘nothing’…know how to make them truly happy….”
Genie: “Do you want that bridge two lanes or four?”
RECIPE OF THE DAY:
Pickled Peaches:
You’ll need about 15 small peaches & spices
Boil 1 C white vinegar and 2 C sugar
Peel about 15 peaches and stick 4 cloves into each
Add stick cinnamon to pan & cook peaches until tender
Put allspice in a mesh boiling bag
You can add the cinnamon to the jar but not the allspice
Place the peaches into a sterilized quart jar and cover with syrup
Use your canning directions
Serve cold
They’ll keep 2 weeks un-canned
