Elvis Blog – Post #71 – The 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake – Part 1
ELVIS QUOTE:
“I know I drove all those other guys crazy buying you this house, but your mother died when you were a year old, and you never had a home, and I wanted to be the one to give it to you.” Who was Elvis talking to? And who were the other guys?

Personal Opinion:
The Greatest Album Ever: The 1974 Promised Land.
It includes: Promised Land, There’s A Honky Tonk Angel (Who Will Take Me Back In), Help Me, It’s Midnight, Your Love’s Been A Long Time Coming, If You Talk In Your Sleep, and You Asked Me To.
The Promised Land referred to in the song is of course, California.
REMEMBERING Tuesday 17 October 1989 5:04 PM:
The Loma Prieta Earthquake:
That morning, on my way to work in Building One, San Francisco Naval Station, I drove down that long curve onto Treasure Island. This small man-made island is across the bay from San Francisco. I was surprised and perplexed to notice that the water, which was usually choppy, was as flat and glassy as a mirror. I had to leave work early as I was being audited by the IRS over in Oakland and had to get to my apartment in Alameda to get my files. I took the Bay Bridge to the Cypress freeway as usual. That span is going east on the lower deck of the bridge, even though Dustin Hoffman drove on the top deck supposedly driving east to Berkeley in the film The Graduate. The 17th of October was, of course, the day of the so-called Bridge series since Oakland was playing San Francisco in the world series. When I hear the term, WORLD SERIES, I always think of John Cleese of Monty Python. He found it so funny that the United States is about the only nation playing baseball—the rest of the world is playing soccer—yet we call it the WORLD series. More on the earthquake next time.
JOKE OF THE DAY:
Two rich, evil brothers. Money kept their evil ways secret. They attended the same church pretending to be perfect Christians. A new pastor sees right through them. One brother died. The other handed the new pastor a check, but with a condition. “At his funeral, you must say my brother was a saint.” The pastor said. “He was an evil man who cheated on his wife & abused his family.” “But, compared to his brother, he was a saint.”
