My Research
I seek to research and uncover information behind the ghost legends I’ve read about. My approach is to take professional ghost tours, familiarize myself with the town or city, then strike up conversations with local residents. Some claim to have personally encountered apparitions, while others refer me to someone who might know someone who possibly has pertinent information. It sometimes requires compiling information gleaned from various individuals before the story of one legend emerges.
Reluctant Believers
It surprised me to learn how many people actually believe in ghosts. It is even more surprising how reluctant they are to openly admit to that fact. Therefore, for the comfort of all who cooperated with me, my sources remain anonymous.
My Intention
It is not my intention to settle the question of whether or not ghosts exist. I can tell you there is an abundance of ghost sightings reported via the internet and information is available in a number of books found in the library. Ghosts are quite popular and evidently thrive in all locales.
Validity
I make no assertions as to the validity of these accounts. My contributors have told me what they believe to be true. My aim is to relate those tales to you in a readable and enjoyable format. Here and there through the telling, I have tried to provide interesting facts about specific places, events or things. I open each group of stories with an overview of the town or city where those events took place.
Legends I Tracked
These are the legends I tracked in the south, including but not limited to: Amelia Island, Yulee, and Saint Augustine, Florida; Savannah, St. Simon Island, Tybee Island, and Brunswick, Georgia; and Charleston, South Carolina.
